Site selection studies can be carried out on a local or regional basis, including:
- Geohydrological and geological investigations
- Geotechnical assessments and soils characterisation
- Public participation and expert testimony at public hearings
Landfill design – in accordance with the appropriate classification for both general and hazardous wastes:
- Digital terrain modeling (DTM) and airspace optimisation
- Overall site layout design and development phasing
- Landfill liner designs including natural soils/clays and geosynthetic materials; and leachate leak detection systems
- Capping designs including natural soils and geosynthetic materials
- Operational plans
Infrastructure design – incorporating overall site layout and phased development:
- Entrance control, access roads and weighbridge facilities
- Administration offices, ablution facilities and workshops
- Recycling and composting yards
Closure and rehabilitation of landfill sites – design of landfill closure in accordance with current regulatory requirements
Leachate management and treatment systems –
- Design and installation of leachate collection systems for both old and new landfill sites
- Design and installation of leachate treatment systems
Landfill gas management and utilisation – design and installation of monitoring, extraction/recovery, flaring and gas utilisation systems.
Licence applications – project management and compilation of licence applications in accordance with current regulatory requirements.
